Week Five of Coaltion Build Another Winner

Work started on October 10 where it left off on October 3, shingling the roof. Volunteers are shown here getting things started.

It wasn’t long until the crew was near the top.

By the end of the day the entire roof had been shingled.

While some of the crews were completing the shingling, others were finishing up the Dow Board (insulation) installed on the garage and house.

Not all the work was done outside, some volunteers began the installation of dry wall on the interior walls of the garage area.

House Captain Bob Rieden summed up the day as follows:
“We had a group of about 30 people this week working on the house. We had everything from individuals that were out for the first time to individuals that have been building HFH houses longer than I have. I continue to be amazed at how well everyone works with one another and enjoys the day. I would also like to thank everyone for being willing to do whatever is asked of them, it makes my life so much more enjoyable when everyone is willing to do any task. There are no tasks that aren't important in completing the house.

Saturday we were able to compete the shingling on the roof, finish the blue board on the entire house and garage, complete much of the dry wall in the garage, and all of the dry wall on the front porch ceiling. We also completed the trim work on the front porch and completed much of the touch painting on the fascia and soffit material. (For a while it looked like someone had stirred up an ant hill on the front porch what with all the people working at one time!) We also installed the lock sets on the front and back doors along with a number of chores on the interior of the house. Every week I go out with a list of chores I believe are reasonable to be completed during the day and every week the group completes more than I expected.”
