QUALIFYING FOR A HABITAT HOME Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity is looking for qualified, low-income families who are in need of decent, affordable homes and who are motivated as a family unit to become proud homeowners. Three distinct areas are considered when reviewing potential "partner families" as first time homeowners and there are residency requirements.
How Families Are Selected Currently living in housing which is overcrowded or in bad condition. Have reliable yearly income above 25% and below 50% of the median income set by the 2009 HUD guidelines.
Ability to Pay Demonstrate the ability to make a down payment of $500, the monthly mortgage payment, taxes and insurance (about $400-$450 estimated dollars per month), and be able to pay your monthly utility bills and other essential expenses. Demonstrate a recent history of accepting responsibility for and managing debt.
Willingness to Partner Contribute a minimum of 500 hours of sweat equity. Maintain and repair the house after moving in.

Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity holds an application meeting once a year in late April or early May.
