QUALIFYING FOR A HABITAT HOME
Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity is looking for qualified, low-income families who are in need of decent, affordable homes and who are motivated as a family unit to become proud homeowners. Three distinct areas are considered when reviewing potential "partner families" as first time homeowners; there are residency requirements.

How Families Are Selected
• Currently, paying more than 30% of income for housing and unable to find an affordable alternative.
• Currently living in housing which is overcrowded or in bad condition.
• Have reliable yearly income above 30% and below 50% of the median income set by the 2011 HUD guidelines.

Ability to Pay
• Habitat for Humanity houses are not free.
• Demonstrate the ability to make a down payment of $500, the monthly mortgage payment, taxes and insurance (about $400-$600 estimated dollars per month), and be able to pay your monthly utility bills and other essential expenses.

Demonstrate a recent history of accepting responsibility for and managing debt.

Willingness to Partner
Be honest and cooperative in your partnership with Habitat.

Contribute a minimum of 500 hours of sweat equity.

Maintain and repair the house after moving in.

Residency
To qualify to become a Habitat partner, you must live or have worked in the greater Albuquerque area for the last 12 months and be a US citizen or have a permanent resident card.

Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity holds an application meeting once a year in late April or early May. To get on the mailing list for the location and date, email the office or call 505-265-0057. You must include your name, complete mailing address, and phone number.
